The Tasmanian Greens today encouraged Attorney-General, Brian Wightman, to release the long awaited discussion paper on political donation reform as soon as possible.

Greens Leader Nick McKim said that he hoped Mr Wightman would hold to previous commitments from former Attorney-General, David Bartlett that the discussion paper would allow for the canvassing of all donations reform options.

“The greens believe we need to ban or at least strongly cap donations to political parties and candidates,” Mr McKim said.

“Certainly there are some donations, such as those from tobacco companies and property developers, which the Greens believe should be banned outright.

“We look forward to the release of the discussion paper in the near future, and we will be submitting a response as part of our long term campaign for reform in this area,” Mr McKim said.
