MATT STEVENSON will not contest the seat of Denison
Focussed on Keeping Rates Low
25th May 2011
Alderman Matt Stevenson has today announced that he will not contest the seat of Denison
re-count because he is focussed on his campaign to become the next Deputy Mayor of
Glenorchy.
“I am committed to making the Glenorchy Council more financially secure and to ensure
rate rises are kept to an absolute minimum for the ratepayers of the city.” Ald Stevenson
said.
“The best way I can do that is by delivering on my plans in a leadership position at the
Council.
“The city of Glenorchy deserves a focussed leadership, and by dismissing any, although
marginal, chance of being elected in another position allows me to focus solely on delivering
better outcomes for the ratepayers of Glenorchy.
“In progressing my plans, I have this week lodged several notices of motions for next
month’s council meeting
These motions include:
asking the Alderman to complete a comprehensive review of council services to
understand if some services are already being delivered by other levels of
government or the private sector so we can remove ourselves from these areas; and,
investigating joint power and telecommunications tenders with other councils in the
state.
“Each motion focuses on getting the very best value out of every ratepayer dollar spent.”
