GREENS SUCCESSFULLY REPEAL EXCESSIVE PLUMBER REGISTRATION FEES
1200 Per Cent Price Hike to be Removed
The Tasmanian Greens today achieved support for their motion to disallow the recent 1200 per cent price hike in plumber registration fees, saying it is a win for plumbers and a win for Tasmanian consumers, and is just one of the many benefits of a power sharing Parliament.
Greens Small Business spokesperson Kim Booth MP said it is important to put on the record the support from the Liberal Opposition, Peter Gutwein, as well as the Minister for Workplace Relations, David O’Byrne, for the Greens’ motion.
“Plumbers can now go back to work in the knowledge that they will not be paying excessive accreditation fees and will no longer have to pass those fees on to their customers,” Mr Booth said.
“The matter of fees and regulations will now be referred to the Tasmanian Parliamentary Committee into Building and Construction for a recommendation of an appropriate regulatory regime.”
“The Greens will never allow professional tradies to be driven from their industry by excessive fees or overregulation.”
“We are determined to see the removal of artificial barriers to entry or retention and the requirement for dual registration.”
“The proposed regime is driving costs through the roof for both plumbers and consumers and I am delighted that the Parliament has supported the Greens’ disallowance motion.”
“I also want to thank again, those plumbers whom have contacted me, the 62 plumbers who turned up at my office to discuss the matter and in particular Andrew Foley who has stood up for his industry and drove from Launceston with John Oldenough to witness the disallowance motion debate,” Mr Booth said.
