GREENS SEEK TRIPARTITE SUPPORT FOR GEOTOURISM IN NORTH WEST
Small Business and Education Sectors Set to Grow from Geotourism Industry
The Tasmanian Greens today called on both Labor and Liberal parties to take a tripartite approach to support geo-tourism projects, which highlight the wealth of globally significant sites along the North West Coast, the West Coast, and King Island.
Greens Member for Braddon Paul ‘Basil’ O’Halloran MP said the recent international conference in Ulverstone highlighted the amazing unique karst and cave systems in Braddon, and now is the opportunity for there to be developed a strategic approach to boost jobs and create wealth for the North West.
“The Greens are calling for a tripartite approach to support the geo-tourism industry in Braddon, given the globally significant sites literally littered across the north and west coasts of Tasmania,” Mr O’Halloran said.
“The recent 19th Australasian Cave and Karst Management Conference has shown international interest in our amazing areas, and we need to utilise this interest and foster an industry which supports its growth.”
“There are several groups promoting geo-tourism projects, 1) the geo-heritage work of the Waratah Wynyard Council, 2) the Project Queenstown group, and 3) the Devonport Rotary club.”
“We need to also tap into and promote the growing interest in the global phenomenon that is geo-caching.”
“The Greens urge both the Labor and Liberal parties will support this opportunity to boost economic growth and create jobs, particularly in the small business and education sectors,” Mr O’Halloran said.
