Gatenby, Beven and Badcock take seats on TFGA board
Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association president David Gatenby and incumbent director Noel Beven have been re-elected to the TFGA board in results announced today.
They will be joined by Forth vegetable farmer, Michael Badcock.
Mr Beven won a two-man race for the 62 telephone district position from TFGA Meat Council chairman Bret Hall. He serves a third term as a director.
Mr Badcock defeated incumbent director Yvonne Bowling and Redpa beef producer Stephen Pilkington for the 64 telephone district board position.
Mr Gatenby was unopposed for the 63 district.
Mr Badcock has been involved in farmer politics for more than 40 years, including a period as senior vice president of the TFGA.
Mr Gatenby today congratulated Mr Badcock and Mr Beven on their election, saying they would be members of the board at a critical time as agriculture took on the role of major player in the state’s economic future.
He also paid tribute to Yvonne Bowling’s service to the TFGA.
“Yvonne is an amazing woman,” he said. “She helps to run a beef fattening enterprise on King Island, she is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and she is completing a university degree in commerce/agribusiness.
“She is dedicated to education and training and, during her two terms on the TFGA board, she has been a great role model for directors of either gender,” Mr Gatenby said.
The terms of the three directors begin after the TFGA annual general meeting on May 17.
