The Coming Catastrophe of Growth, Migration and Population 4

Following the article in the Mercury 25-08-09, New Suburb Planned. Korean group’s $500m dream, I would like to express my strongest opposition to this development being approved.

It is unconscionable that foreign interests should be allowed to establish whole suburbs/enclaves in this Country/State. I was 5 years old when I first met my father, he had just returned from WW2 and 3 ½ years as a POW of the Japanese, those blokes fought, suffered and died to protect this country, our culture, our identity and our freedom.

The treachery and duplicity of successive governments, particularly the Howard and now the Rudd/Gillard Govt have betrayed, violated and debauched everything those blokes fought, suffered and died for.

We are fast becoming tenants and serfs in our own country, a polyglot nation of disparate groups as a succession of politicians marinated in the evangelical dogma of the gospel of “growth economics, profligate consumption and more is never enough” acquiesce to the bankrupt mentality of globalisation and the demands of corporate monopolies, politicians who continue to flog this country and its resources off to the highest bidder.

Growth economics is a malignant system trying to outpace the problems it is creating; the economic demands of ever increasing production and efficiencies is hardwired to fail and will implode. In 1972 the Club of Rome stated “there are limits to growth”; right now we are using/consuming our natural capital faster than it can replace itself; the ecological balance on the planet has and continues to been decimated; the country our children shall inherit (already 80% owned and controlled by foreign interests) will be nothing more than a depleted mine site and a mutilated landscape tragically dominated, poisoned and impoverished.

In my lifetime world population has trebled (and is increasing exponentially); that population together with the industrialised economy we have created has only been possible as a consequence of cheap energy. Ccheap energy (while prices will fluctuate) is all over. The current global economic paradigm — governed by fractional reserve banking, fiat currency, and compound interest (debt-based growth) — is inherently and by definition a pyramid scheme and hardwired to fail; each of the trillions of dollars created out of thin air since the spring of 2008 is a commitment to expend energy that cannot and will not ever be there. To continue to pursue ever increasing growth/consumption and population is patent insanity; particularly by encouraging large groups (that is not to reflect on individual migration) of nationals whose cultures are substantially different to our own to settle and create enclaves in this country.

Would we be allowed to set up enclaves in their countries?

Given the F.I.R.B. was substantially gutted by the Howard Government, responsibility for such approval processes are in the hands of local authorities and governments. They must think beyond the short term dollar stimulation of this proposal and think of the country they are bequeathing their children and grandchildren and mine.
