Some Rosebery residents are wondering how much information they are being denied by the Cradle Coast Water Authority, West Coast Council, MMG and the DHHS over the current dispute over the towns sewage system.
It’s been a bad couple of years for the townsfolk of Rosebery with the heavy metal poisoning controversy and now another round of contamination issues with sewage percolating into people’s yards. Just how much information is being withheld from residents about the extent of any environmental contamination or human health risks is yet to be discovered. Does this give yet another explanation for the high incidence of ‘Rosebery belly’ (diarrhea) in flood-prone Rosebery.
What a nasty cocktail we now have in some people’s yards, sewage and household chemicals mixed with toxic heavy metals.
Before Xmas residents of Rosebery received a letter from the Cradle Coast Water Authority (CCWA) advising them that they would be visiting peoples’ homes in mid December to locate water mains. The stated reason for the work was because of the statewide roll out of water meters.
A few months ago CCWA workers in Rosebery were seen using a large ‘smoke machine’ on top of storm water drain access holes to find out if sewage was getting into storm water drains. Smoke was seen coming from not your expected places. It has been discovered that sewage was leaking out in peoples’ backyards and going direct into storm water drains and that half the pipes or taps could not be found.
The Pieman River is getting to be more of a cesspit every year.
Apparently West Coast Council have got sludge on their hands yet again.
The CCWA has been unable to get their hands on sewage system plans from West Coast Council who claim they don’t have all of them.
The Rosebery Mine initially put in the sewage system in Rosebery. Word has it that MMG wants to buy back the sewage ponds situated upstream of the town’s water supply inlet in the Stit River.
So who is going to pay to fix the sewage works in Rosebery and will the Cradle Coast Water Authority and the DHHS provide the information on the levels of groundwater contamination in the town and if there is any public or environmental health risk?
Or do we have to wait for the shit to really hit the fan!
