Power sharing …
I find the requirement to have my writing and media effectively vetted by the party too onerous to comply with. I therefore am forced to resign from the Tasmanian Greens. I will enter into no further dialog about any perceived requirements the party may attempt to make on me. I value my intellectual freedom much more highly than membership of a political party. I bear no animosity to the party, and I am still coming to terms with the fact I had more freedom of thought and expression prior to joining the party than I had as a member. I hope others fully realise the extent of the responsibility that the party attempts to assume over the individual.

Greens councillor quits party over ‘censorship’
A northern Tasmanian councillor says he was left with no option but to quit the state Greens after the party allegedly tried to censor him.
West Tamar councillor Karl Stevens has resigned from the Tasmanian Greens and is no longer an endorsed Greens local government representative.
Councillor Stevens says the Greens wanted to approve his material and graphics before he could publish them on a website.
“It was the result of a grievance motion brought against me,” he said.
“The result of that was the Greens wanted me to have any published material online or any graphics that I do passed or vetted by the party before I publish them, and I found that a bit too onerous to actually comply with.”
Karl Stevens says he was also told to back off over criticism of the Wilderness Society.
He says the problems started during the forestry peace deal negotiations, when he published online a draft of the forestry Statement of Principles.
The Greens have declined to comment.
