Loose Canon: “A Few of Our Favourite English Things.”
Friday October 8th.
Moonah Arts Centre’s popular Friday Night Concert Series concludes this Friday evening
with popular Hobart vocalists, The Loose Canon Chamber Singers.
Loose Cannon are a group of 16 singers who perform an eclectic range of a cappella music,
ranging from the baroque and renaissance to the present day. They have recently
performed at the Festival of Voices, and at Government House at the invitation of His
Excellency the Governor of Tasmania.
Loose Canon Chamber Singers will be presenting this Friday at the Moonah Arts Centre , “A
Few of Our Favourite English Things.”
This selection of songs has been inspire by the rolling hills and gentle streams of England,
and were written either by English composers, or by those who were inspired by Old Blighty.
Beginning with a medieval round, Loose Canon will present music ranging across four
centuries; from rollicking 16th century madrigals through moving 19th and 20th century songs
before reaching a rousing finale with the fun of, A Walk in the Sewers of the Strand with
Spike Milligan.
The concert will also feature a selection from Butterworth’s poignant setting of verses from
AE Houseman’s A Shropshire Lad performed by soloist Michael Kregor with accompanist
Angela Brinkhoff. The concert will be directed by guest conductor Jo Legosz.
Doors Open at 7pm for a 7:30 Concert
