The Red Party Media Release
Hobart to Party for a good cause.
The Annual Red Party is once again coming to Hobart this year on October the 2nd . Started by a group of enthusiastic Medical Students in Perth in 2007, the Red Party has become a national initiative, with a Party being held in each capital city yearly. The Party aims to raise awareness of HIV/AIDs as both a national health issue, as well as a global epidemic.
Headlining this year are local bands Detour and Verticoli and DJ Electricramjet from The Scientists of Modern Music. Now in its third consecutive year, the Red Party has gained a reputation of being a must-not-miss event. The best thing is that through the party, thousands of dollars are raised to help a very worthy cause.
Its estimated that 33.4 million people are currently living with HIV/AIDS and of those 2.9 million are children. HIV/AIDS is a disease whose spread could be avoided with safe practices.
In developed countries such as Australia HIV/AIDs has become a chronic disease, with many patients living happy and long lives. However because of issues of medication prices, and inadequate healthcare access, this is not the case in developing and poor countries. Furthermore, mother to child transmission can be prevented with simple medication. However many people in the developing world do not gain access to these medications, and children world over are unnecessarily being burdened with this disease.
However there are many positive strides being made. Many Non-Governmental organisations are working on the ground to spread the message of safe-sex practices, as well as distributing the life changing medications that are required.
All proceeds from this years Hobart Red Party will go to UNICEFs HIV/AIDs campaign, Unite for Children, Unite Against AIDS, so that mothers and children affected by HIV/AIDS can be free of the shackles this disease. So get that red costume ready, and come let your hair down for a good cause!
