Tasmania may make political history as this federal election could see the world’s first iSenator elected from Tasmanian senate candidates.
Julie Murray of Gravelly Beach is the primary senate candidate for Australian-based online political party Senator Online (SOL).
SOL will allow everyone on Australia’s Electoral Roll to vote (free) on important issues and every Bill put to Parliament. SOL senators have committed in writing to vote as the majority direct.
No other world democracy has ever had a National seat held by a candidate committed in writing to vote in accordance with the majority view of online polls.
Further and importantly for Tasmania, Senator Online mandates that senators elected by a particular state are required to respect the will of that state (a concept forgotten by other parties!). Other political parties expect all their senators to share the same view – irrespective of which state they have been elected by.
“If you want a senator that won’t sell you out and has committed in writing to vote in accordance with the majority view of Tasmanians then vote Senator Online” Julie Murray says.
“Senator Online’s aim is to make the often detached political process more accessible, transparent and engaging. Community consultation and inclusion is an important part of any democratic process and with the internet now available to over 80% of Australians, it’s now possible for these ideals to become a reality. The internet can be the most powerful democratic tool there is,” Senator Online party founder Berge Der Sarkissian says.
At the click of a mouse Australians will be able to directly engage with the development and formation of policy; with the opportunity to have their say on issues they feel passionately about.
“SOL challenges the traditional Australian political process by offering voters a new, easy and highly effective way to engage with issues that concern them now and beyond election time. Each federal senator costs the tax payer in excess of half a million dollars each year – yet all major party senators in the main simply follow the party line. SOL senators will be the clear voice of the people and return the Senate to a house of review rather than a house of rubber stamps” Der Sarkissian says.
