THE Hobart electorate of Denison is suddenly shaping up as one of the key contests of this year’s federal election.
High-profile independent candidate Andrew Wilkie is determined to shake the seat from Labor’s grasp.
The State election candidate, anti-pokie and integrity campaigner and former intelligence officer and Iraq war whistleblower is set to run in Denison as an independent.
His likely decision to run for the House of Representatives seat follows comments made by Greens leader Senator Bob Brown on Monday that the Greens also have their eye on Denison.
Labor has held Denison since 1987 and won an astounding 48 per cent of the primary vote at the 2007 federal election that swept the Rudd Government to power.
But Mr Wilkie believes the retirement of long-serving Labor MP Duncan Kerr has changed the political landscape.
