Australian Greens Deputy Leader, Christine Milne has introduced candidates for the Greens’ Tasmanian Senate ticket.
Senator Milne will be the lead candidate, followed by Tamar Valley economist and business owner, Peter Whish-Wilson, and Hobart tourist operator Penelope Ann.
The official announcement took place today at Launceston City Park, where Senator Milne was joined by her two running mates.
“We are witnessing a shift in modern politics where people are looking for their representatives to reflect the values of those who elected them. That is a diverse, intelligent and fair society, and this is a diverse, intelligent and fair team.
“It gives me great satisfaction to introduce my running mates; number two on the ticket, Peter Whish-Wilson, and Penelope Ann as number three.
“From the Tamar Valley, Peter is an economist from the Australian and international finance and investment sectors, as well as a business owner. He is a passionate environmentalist, playing an active role in marine and coastal protection, and is a high profile campaigner against the Tamar Valley Pulp Mill.
“Peter has policy interests focusing on preventative healthcare, monetising ecosystems, climate change adaptation, energy efficiency, as well as youth and wellbeing.
“Penelope Ann is a small business operator from the Hobart area. She is a strong advocate for linking the value of our tourism and hospitality industries with the quality and health of our environmental surrounds.
“As a person involved in the tourism industry she is very aware of how visitors to our state value Tasmania’s pristine forests, fresh air and clean water.
“Her areas of policy interest include transport, climate change and energy. As a former high school teacher, Penelope has a keen interest in promoting quality education in all of our schools.
“The Greens have never polled stronger than they are right now. It’s encouraging, it’s exciting, and together with Penelope and Peter, I am confident the Greens can deliver great results for Tasmania.”
