Budget heat on Aird
Tasmania’s Treasurer Michael Aird is under pressure to deliver on the March state election promises when he hands down his fifth budget today.
Last year the Treasurer’s fourth budget was a reactiion to a grim economic situation, after the global financial crisis punched a major hole in GST and state revenue.
This year the state’s finances are expected to be in a better position but the Government is warning Tasmanias the package will not be all good news.
…
It is Mr Aird’s first budget under the new Labor-Green power-sharing arrangement.
The two parties made more than a billion dollars of promises during the March election campaign.
The Treasurer has said the Government is “on the pathway” to delivering those promises.
