Today the Prime Minister agreed that Tasmania has the 2nd highest rate of cancers in the nation. He announced pots of money for services – good. Thanks Kevin. Great. Needed. Overdue. Welcome. BUT …..where is the money to find out WHY this clean, green state has so many cancers – and the money to help PREVENT all these cancers? When will someone in power start to take health promotion SERIOUSLY ?
Cheers, Heather D

The Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, has used a visit to Tasmania’s north-west to outline a $50 million upgrade of the state’s cancer services.
Kevin Rudd made the announcement after turning the sod on a new GP super clinic at Burnie.
The $47.7 million for oncology service upgrade fulfills election pledges by both the State and Federal Governments.
The Commonwealth will provide $18.7 million and the State Government $24 million, with private interests providing about $4 million.
The money will pay for a new radiation oncology bunker at the Royal Hobart Hospital, upgrades to services at the Launceston General Hospital and a new cancer care centre at the North-West Regional Hospital at Burnie.
Burnie will also get $1 million for an MRI machine.
An extra 18 chemotherapy treatment chairs will be installed, 12 at the Burnie clinic and six in Launceston.
