Answers sought from Rudd after poll slump 4

Labor MPs will go into a caucus meeting on Monday afternoon seeking answers from Kevin Rudd after his leadership and the government’s standing took another hit in the opinion polls.

The latest Nielsen poll is the second in less than a week to dish out a hammering to the government, which goes into its third budget on Tuesday with its credibility at its lowest ebb since winning power.

Voters are unhappy after the government shelved plans for an emissions trading scheme until at least 2013 despite action on climate change being one of its core promises at the 2007 election.
