The dolphins … before death

Posted on

Some images of the Dolphins that have become beached at the Pieman River mouth before things went bad. These images were taken at 3pm on thursday the 8th only hours before the little fellas got into trouble.

ABC Online report:

One of the 12 dolphins returned to the water last night after being stranded on Tasmania’s west coast has been found dead.

Rescuers found the dolphin’s carcass when assessing the situation on the Pieman River this morning.

They hope surviving dolphins in the river will swim out to the safety of the sea.

It is thought that stormy seas caused 34 dolphins to become stranded at the mouth at the weekend.

About half were already dead when they were discovered on Sunday and yesterday rescuers managed to return 12 to the water.

Four swam immediately back to sea but the rest disappeared up river.

This morning rescuers combed about 20 kilometres of river, finding one of the animals dead.
