Media Alert:
For immediate release:
From the 30th of April-15th of May, The European based Kamikaze Circus Company, in
association with Tasmanian based Circus Horrificus/Manic Productions will be undertaking a
tour of their brand new, hilarious circus/physical theatre piece “Natural Stupidity” around the state.
This unique, never to be repeated show will mainly be performed in smaller, regional areas, such as
Weldbourough, Bicheno, Deloraine and Franklin, but there will also be performances in larger towns, such as
Launceston and Hobart.
Natural Stupidity contains some of the most exciting, unbelievable and dangerous circus stunts ever to be
performed, all woven into a cute, silly story, told through the actions of three very naff, endearing
characters, the chemistry between which brings this bizarre, cartoon-esque world to life.
Kamikaze Productions founder, John Kamikaze and Circus Horrificus Co-Founder, Samora
Squid, first worked together for in 2006, during which time they undertook large scale
performance projects in such varied and far away places as Mexico, Latvia, France, Belgium and
Holland.
Originally from Scotland, John Kamikaze has been performing internationally for over 30 years. In
recent years, he has been an artist in residence at Les Studio De Cirque De Marseilles in the south
of France and specialises in travelling to remote areas, in order to find new and interesting people to
work with. After his visit to the Antipodes, he will have performed on every continent, except
Antarctica. Squid and Kamikaze currently have a bet for a small some of money as to who will be
the first to venture that far south.
During his time here, John will also be undertaking clown workshops with local artists, in order to
pass on the benefit of his many years of experience.
“Having a performer of this calibre in the state will do wonders to invigorate our already vibrant
and diverse community, while further strengthening our ties and opening doors to incredibly special
networks with esteemed international artists. It’s a pleasure to work with John again and I’m very
excited about this project.” -Samora Squid, Circus Horrificus Co-Founder
Samora Squid and Bridget Bridge co-founded Circus Horrificus in 2006 as part of Is Theatre’s
Backspace Winter Residence Program. During this time, they created the show, A Girl and Her
Squid and have since taken the show all over Tasmania and Victoria, as well as created several other
pieces that have been highly successful.
“This is my favourite kind of project. One where we go to remote places that wouldn’t normally see
this kind of thing and encourage the locals to get behind live performance.” -Bridget Bridge
