POLLUTION INFORMATION TASMANIA RELEASES ITS REPORT CARD FOR THE THREE TASMANIAN POLITICAL PARTIES
ON WATER & AIR QUALITY, CHEMICAL USE AND TOXIC EXPOSURE RISKS
Today, Pollution Information Tasmania released a Report Card of ratings for the three Tasmanian Political Parties on important environmental pollution and toxicology issues that are critical to the health and wellbeing of Tasmania’s human population, its food industries and sustainable ecology.
PIT is a community based network of groups and individuals working and campaigning on pollution issues and public health and environmental risks in Tasmania.
The ranking are based on a series of thirteen critical pollution-related questions compiled by PIT send to the Tasmanian Greens, the Tasmanian Labor Party and the Liberal Party of Tasmania.
We thank all political parties for taking the time to respond to our questionnaire. (see attached)
PIT welcomes the progressive policy initiative outlined by the Tasmanian Greens, the only political party that offered real improvement on the current policies and practices.
Regrettably, in this vital area of public and environmental health safeguards, the two other parties referred to the existing policy and practices and offered little change from the status quo.
On 20 March, consider whether the candidates you chose will be committed to:
ensuring Tasmania’s drinking water is safe, clean and non-toxic,
ensuring Tasmania’s air quality is protected from all harmful emissions,
the ‘precautionary principle’ in applying regulations and controls on the use of all chemicals,
placing the burden of proof on chemical manufacturers to show that their products are safe
