Orford to get White Elephant building 4

What a rort the Federal Govts ‘Building the Education Revolution Program (BER)’ is turning out to be.

Orford Primary School now has a bad example of this misguided and wasteful program.

Their half built new hall is neither class room nor gymnasium. A skillion roof structure dips to hardly 2 metres under the beams on the low side whereas the towering high side faces South, away from the sun.

Useless for basketball, badminton or just about any indoor ball sport – if it follows the form of interstate experiences it will also cost about twice the estimates as already busy builders are unable to finish the present BER workload.

Orford School familes have waited a very long time for the building and deserve a better result from this hard to get infrastructure spending. Premier Bartlett should intervene and stop the works while there is still time to modify the (almost) white elephant Julia Gillard memorial hall in Orford.
