The Lake Pedder Restoration Committee (LPRC) has condemned the decision of the Labor Party to include in its current television advertisement the claim that Green’s policies include “Draining Lake Pedder, which supplies one third of the state’s electricity.”
The LPRC specifically rejects the claim that Lake Pedder supplies 33% of the state’s electricity.
This claim is a wild exaggeration and deliberately deceitful.
We are astonished that David Bartlett, with full access to the Hydro’s technical resources, would allow the Labor Party to deceive and alarm Tasmanians in this way.
We believe David Bartlett should direct John Dowling to remove this absurd claim from the advertisement immediately.
The Committee is also deeply disappointed that the Labor Party has chosen to politicise Lake Pedder in the most negative way possible.
This is an issue that can be resolved – but only through mature and cooperative consideration by all three major political parties in a spirit of genuine engagement with the Tasmanian community.
Restoration is simply not on the agenda at this time.
