TOMORROW – Thursday 18th March 2010
FOREST FURNACE FORUM and CAMPAIGN LAUNCH
When: Thursday 18th March at 12.15pm
Where: Hobart Town Hall
What: Campaign launch and community forum.
Who: Huon Valley Environment Centre and Environment Tasmania with guest speakers: Dr Frank Nicklason, Dr Peter Mcquillan and others.
Environment groups will launch a joint campaign raising a range of major concerns about proposals for the burning native forests for power, and the exporting of native forests as fuel-wood.
The campaign launch will be followed by a community forum on the burning of native forests for power at the Hobart Town Hall, from 12.30pm.
Health professionals, scientists and environmental campaigners will speak about the range of community, economic and environmental impacts associated with proposals to burn native forests for power generation in Tasmania.
The event follows a successful community forum in the Huon Valley town of Judbury, where residents unanimously supported a motion calling for a ban on wood fired power stations and exports of fuel-wood overseas.
Representatives from the Huon Valley Environment Centre, Environment Tasmania and the forum speakers will be available for comment at the launch.
