Bartlett’s sports high school

Tasmania’s Premier is promising the state’s first dedicated sports high school, in the heart of his own electorate.

David Bartlett took off his suit jacket to shoot some hoops at Cosgrove High School, before unveiling an $18 million promise to transform it into a specialised sports school.

The investment will provide a stadium for the Hobart Chargers basketball team.

The Glenorchy school sits in the middle of the Premier’s Denison electorate but Mr Bartlett says the promise is not in response to a poor opinion poll last week.

He says it is an investment in one of Tasmania’s most disadvantaged areas.

“[That’s] something I’ll never apologise for….it’s at the heart of everything that I stand for.”

Mr Bartlett says the money will transform Cosgrove High and combat falling enrolments.

All art of the determined drive to get a Tasmanian team in the AFL, no doubt. Now that would really put us on the map. Bread and circuses…

Glenorchy is not disadvantaged, it has more gaming machines than any where else in Tasmania. Thats what Bartlett wants and defends, but is it a coincidence or is it that the ALP needs to keep these voters dumb and poor. A sports High School will it be sponsored by Vic Bitter.

If you can’t have a clever island you might as well have a great leaping around, throwing, kicking things island, eh?
