PREMIER David Bartlett has been to see the state Governor this morning.
Mr Bartlett had a breakfast meeting with Governor Peter Underwood at Government House this morning.
The widely anticipated meeting follows confirmation last night that the Liberals had secured the crucial 10th seat needed to trigger Mr Bartlett’s promise to hand over Government.
Mr Bartlett is likely to have advised Governor Underwood to hand the reins of Government to Will Hodgman in line with his pre-election pledge to resign his commission if the Liberals won more seats or a higher proportion of the state-wide primary vote.
It comes despite disbelief within the Federal Labor party that Tasmanian Labor would gift the prize of government to the Liberals, despite holding the same number of seats.
Political scientist Richard Herr has previously commented that Mr Bartlett’s “promise” would not be taken into account by Governor Peter Underwood because it treated government like the victory spoils of a soccer match and demeaned proper process.
