A letter to Tasmanian Country 4

In response to Greg Hall MLC’s “Your Say” letter in the Tasmanian Country 26.3.2010, it should be noted that while he states farmers paying $1100/Megalitre (plus annual operational charges) contribute to the economy as a result of the Meander Dam, he failed to mention that Gunns have been promised the same water at $24/Megalitre.

The obvious reason for the Meander Dam project being forced through was to supply another enormously Public paid subsidy to the Gunns proposed Pulp Mill. I believe it had very little to do with farmers’ irrigation needs or concerns, hence the cost to farmers was so outrageously priced so as to discourage them taking it up in order to make sure Gunns had whatever water supply it needed for the Mill.

It would do Greg Hall MLC good to look after the majority of his constituents’ needs rather than pander to those of one obsessive private company. People will stop “carping about (projects like) the Meander Dam” when politicians build Public infrastructure using Public money for the Public and then accordingly price it well within their reach.
