The 252 PaperlinX workers who were yesterday told they will lose their jobs will today be rightly outraged by news of the $400,000 golden handshake to Labor mate Scott Gadd.
Even with their redundancy payments, workers who have been at the mills for more than 40 years will be lucky to receive more than a quarter of the $400,000 which has been provided to Mr Gadd, courtesy of David Bartlett.
It should not be forgotten that Mr Bartlett made the decision to axe the Environment Department prior to reappointing Mr Gadd to head it for $250,000 a year – thereby effectively handing Mr Gadd $250,000 for doing nothing.
Labor made an art form of looking after their mates under Paul Lennon, and today’s revelations confirm it has only got worse under David Bartlett, firstly with Daniel Leesong, and now Scott Gadd.
While we will welcome any positive action the Government takes to support PaperlinX workers and the North-West Coast community, it says a lot about Labor’s priorities that on this very same day news of this massive golden handshake to Mr Gadd is confirmed.
