Still waiting for Labor’s Major Urban Public Transport Study;
People want alternative, integrated transport options;
This study should be released as a matter of priority.
Liberal candidate for Denison, Alderman Elise Archer has been calling on the Premier and Infrastructure Minister to release to the public the Major Urban Public Transport Study since August 2009. It was due for release in April this year.
The Minister Assisting the Premier on Climate Change, Lisa Singh, yesterday in response to Kristie and Ben Johnston’s proposal on light rail (which was as reported in the Mercury, 7 December 2009) said that:
“The Government study on urban public transport is already looking at the issue of light rail using the existing rail corridor from Granton to the centre of Hobart.”

“This Study should be released as a matter of priority as it is expected to also look at a range of potential alternative public transport options for the next 10 years. I have been calling for the release of this study for several months now and I have been met with silence every time,” says Ald Elise Archer.
