Are Roadworks Actually Finished?

The Tasmanian Greens today called on Infrastructure Minister Graeme Sturges to reveal whether or not roadworks have finished on the Constitution Hill section of the Midland Highway, after the roadworks signage was removed from the site despite the appalling condition of the road surface and line markings.
Greens Infrastructure spokesperson Tim Morris MP said the Greens have been receiving complaints from constituents about this section of the Midland Highway so he visited it yesterday to ascertain the situation for himself, only to discover that while the roadworks signs have been removed and the work has apparently ceased, the road surface is still in a very rough condition and the line markings are haphazard at best.
Mr Morris also called on Minister Sturges to clarify the situation regarding a new electronic weather-activated speed sign on Constitution Hill which has many motorists confused as to whether it is advisory, or compulsory.
“The roadworks appear to have finished on the Constitution Hill section of the Midland Highway, but the road surface and line markings are still in an appalling state and the Minister needs to let road-users know whether this is the final result of months of painfully slow roadworks on this section, or whether there is still resealing and line-marking work to do,” said Mr Morris.
“My office is receiving regular complaints about the condition of the Midland Highway at Constitution Hill and after visiting the site yesterday I can see why – the road surface is still very rough and the line markings are unclear or haphazard in many areas.”
“Regular users of the Midland Highway want to know whether this is the end result of months of painfully slow roadworks on this site, or whether they can expect the road surface and line markings to be repaired and repainted in a timely fashion.”
“A number of the callers to my office are also confused about whether the new electronic sign on Constitution Hill is advisory, or compulsory.”
“The Greens are calling on Minister Sturges to ensure that the road surface and road markings at Constitution Hill are brought up to an acceptable standard, as well as clarifying the legal status of the new electronic speed sign,” said Mr Morris.
