THE abolition of Hobart Water will hurt the Government’s re-election chances, the authority’s last chairman warns.

Hobart Water was formally dissolved yesterday as a result of the Government’s water and sewerage reforms.

Outgoing chairman and Hobart alderman John Freeman used its last annual general meeting to attack the Government’s reform agenda, which he said would only result in higher costs for householders.

“It is a blunder of monumental proportions, the Government was advised it was a blunder and we spoke to the Legislative Council at length but no notice was taken of the things we told them,” Ald Freeman said.
