First Person on The Book Show on Radio National has been rivetting listening in the past week. Robyn Davidson has been reading her Quarterly Essay No Fixed Address – Nomads and the Fate of the Planet
As The Book Show says: Robyn Davidson draws on her own experiences with nomadic cultures to delineate and explore a way of life that now, after many thousands of years, is being swept away by modernity. Through her travels in India and Tibet she’s witnessed the way governments see tribal people, ‘nomads’, as a problem to be managed. But she believes nomads care for the earth better than anyone else and that they’re less concerned with the accumulation of wealth than the gathering of knowledge.
