Today in Parliament Labor MP and Burnie Mayoral candidate Steve Kons was embarrassed by his own Premier.
Mr Kons is pursuing his ambition to put the mayoral robes back on, while still being paid to be full-time Labor MP for Braddon.
This is after he had previously had to resign as Mayor back in 1998 when then Premier Jim Bacon told him he could not be both a Labor MP and an ‘independent’ Mayor.
In his haste to campaign for mayor, Mr Kons issued a pamphlet critical of the money spent on the Burnie Makers Workshop.
David Bartlett was forced today to repudiate Steve Kons and say that his party, like the Liberals, supports the Makers Workshop.
The Premier gave Mr Kons a political backhander before he deserts the sinking ship.
Steve Kons should focus on the job he is paid for and start getting better outcomes for the people of Braddon.
A great place to start would be lobbying the Health Minister for better cancer services for the North West Coast.
This disunity shows that the Labor Government is struggling to maintain the discipline needed to govern effectively as its members start to think about life after state politics.
