Sources say that in the round of Rudd Government nation building offers to states earlier this year, Federal Labor was keen to give Tasmania $250,000,000 for a public transport system based on light rail.
In spite of the keenness of the Feds — and Hobart’s desperate need for a viable public transport system, the story goes that Tasmania’s political chief of infrastructure, was unable to get his act together to put in the necessary paperwork.
Could it be possible that the Tassie transport tsar is once more to choke on his cornflakes?
And, there’s more …
There is a persistent rumour in Launceston political circles about the office of Bass Labor Member Jodie Campbell — much loved by PM Kevin Rudd, judging by his gushing accolades as she tripped around Launceston with the PM yesterday.
The rumour is there has been a complete turnover of staff in the local member’s office; and Federal Labor is paying close attention.
Tasmanian Treasurer Michael Aird’s name has also been mentioned.
What is going on?
