It would appear that our governments, in conjunction with industry and the largest polluters are perpetrating the world’s greatest fraud on the populace. It is a well-contrived scheme which benefits them financially and will probably destroy the world as we know it, and it’s all about money! It is a scheme tantamount to genocide, if not extinction, and once we are advanced on this path, it is irreversible.
We are fed palliatives in the form of promises of carbon trading and carbon capture to solve our problems. The talk about ‘green’ energy but do little or nothing about it and the entire world is driven by a dependency on fossil fuels to supply our ever increasing energy demands.
Emissions targets, no matter how small, will NEVER be met. In fact, the world’s emissions are set to rise dramatically over the next few years and will continue to do so until either the fuel runs out or atmospheric disaster strikes, whichever is the sooner. Our current policies make one or other of these options inevitable.
From a survival point of view, our only hope lies in a TOTAL collapse of the capitalist system, regardless of the hardship that that will cause. The way of life we are used to will no longer exist, and it is all brought about by human greed and our own folly.
Our current financial system that fuels this is based on never ending ‘growth’, spurred on by increasing credit and stimulus packages that eat into our future. We are already living way beyond out means and subjecting future generations to a life of survival between disasters, both from an economic and an environmental point of view.
Here is why.
Nobody has yet linked growth to pollution, yet it is an obvious corollary. The more we grow, the more energy we consume, and the more energy we consume, the more pollution we create. Because of the financial collapse, we are artificially creating growth by going into debt. Already America owes 350% of its GDP and Australia now owes $300 billion in debt repayment, plus the interest. Europe is in a similar position, and the economies of Japan are also following suit. To get out of this situation, they are waiting for the economy to recover and are promoting the idea that the recession has bottomed out and in some areas, it is over. This totally neglects to mention this accumulated national debt, which is dwarfed by the personal credit debt accumulated by the citizens individually and the ‘residuals’ debt. Basically the whole world, with the exception of China, is bankrupt, but continuing to trade. I cannot help but think a absolute and devastating crash is inevitable!
The politicians hope that they can hold on long enough to stimulate manufacturing and commerce to lower this debt before the entire edifice crumbles, but in doing so, they are causing the even bigger disaster of global warming and climate change.
Carbon capture is still only a dream, and even if it wasn’t, the logistics of implementing it are a virtual impossibility and with the added disadvantage that the system itself consumes a huge amount of extra energy. As the carbon dioxide is more then three times the volume of the carbon that produced it, we are unlikely to find a hole big enough to bury it in!
Carbon cap and trading is nothing more than a huge financial fraud that will make a few people very, very rich, and do nothing to achieve the grandiose claims for carbon reduction. For instance, growing short term plantations that require more water than falls on the whole of Australia as rain, and in a situation where we are already so desperately short for our domestic needs is surely a pipe dream. Added to this is the increased fire danger and that small commercial consideration that every MIS scheme ever attempted has dramatically failed, yet still we persist, and the stock market is already advertising for investors to share in the one trillion dollars futures market, We overlook the simple fact that one trillion dollars worth of carbon futures is a license to create one trillion dollars worth of extra pollution! Carbon cap and trade will actually increase the amount of CO2 entering the atmosphere.
There are currently 818 billions tonnes of fossil fuel available to burn before stocks run out. At the current increasing rate of consumption, this will happen round about 2040 – 2050. This will add 2.748 trillion tonnes of CO2 into the atmospheres and deplete the oxygen by 1 870 billion tonnes. Together with temperature rise and increase ocean acidity, this may be enough to trigger the extinction of almost the entire marine life in the world. Insects may also be dramatically affected, as they do not breathe in a conventional way, having no lungs. They absorb oxygen through their body walls and expel carbon dioxide in the same way. A decline in oxygen could see many species unable to survive. If for instance, ALL bees were to die, it is estimated that humans would follow in approximately four years.
The future is not looking very rosy, despite the assurances we receive from our leaders and the joy they see the increasing minerals exports will bring to Australia. I personally see it as a fools paradise, and I pity the future generations who will have to try to live with the legacy we are leaving them.
