TASMANIAN tourism operators want a rethink of a 16 per cent cut to the state’s Parks and Wildlife Service, warning it will “come back to bite” the economy by damaging feature attractions.

Tourism Industry Council Tasmania yesterday joined in concern over cuts to parks jobs, field centres, tracks, viewing platforms, toilets and other infrastructure.

“In the long term this will come back to bite us, in terms of our capacity to grow the economy and our industry,” said TICT chief executive Daniel Hanna.

Documents leaked to the Tasmanian Greens show the service is to lose 30 jobs and park fees are to increase in line with inflation.
