MEDIA RELEASE
Matt Peacock – Killer Company
Tasmanian Book Launch
The Tasmanian Branch of The AWU launches Matt Peacock’s new book “Killer Company” in Hobart on Wed Sept 16th.
The Tasmanian launch of Matt Peacock’s new book Killer Company will be hosted by The Australian Workers’ Union in Hobart on Wednesday September 16. The Workplace Relations Minister Lisa Singh will begin proceedings by introducing the author who will then discuss some of the highlights of his new book.
In “Killer Company”, ABC journalist Matt Peacock rips the cloak of secrecy from one of the greatest corporate scandals in Australia’s history. His painstaking research, involving newly discovered documents and interviews with over a hundred former James Hardie employees and other key figures, reveals in stark detail how the company subverted the institutions designed to protect ordinary citizens, and how a dedicated group of unionists, lawyers and activists finally exposed Hardie′s subterfuge.
The book launch will be followed by an open forum discussion about asbestos issues in Tasmania. The forum panel will consist of Matt Peacock, the AWUs Dr. Yossi Berger and Maurice Blackburn asbestos lawyer Andrew Dimsey.
Tasmanian Branch secretary Ian Wakefield said that “this event is another important part of our ongoing campaign to raise the awareness about the dangers of asbestos in this state. We believe that our strategy for the Prioritised Removal of asbestos from Tasmania will help put an end to the suffering and despair associated with asbestos once and for all. Unless we do this, authors will still be writing books about asbestos related tragedies in 50 years time”.
