A LOBBY group has apologised to gay and intersex people for ads it ran during the 2007 Federal election campaign.
Timber Communities Australia has admitted the ads, which targeted Greens’ policies on same sex marriage and the legal recognition of intersex people, were created out of ignorance.
“We are sincerely regretful that we ran the ads,” Timber Communities Australia (TCA) Tasmanian manager Barry Chipman said today.
“At the time of running the ads in the lead up to the 2007 Federal Election it was purely for political purposes.”
Mr Chipman said he had been genuinely unaware of what the term intersex meant when his organisation plotted to attack the Greens’ policies.
Intersex people display both male and female characteristics.
Mr Chipman today presented human rights advocates Martine Delaney and Peter Power with a written apology from TCA’s Canberra based chief executive Jim Adams.
