Around 50,000 home and business owners in the Tamar valley find their property values under severe threat from this proposal and the failure of the government to assure public protection.
Many already find they cannot sell and that their home/business values have dropped by 20% or more.
For an average value of around $300,000, 50,000 properties comes out to $15 billion. A 20% loss from $15 billion is $3 billion that the community stands to lose on this item alone.
Does Lib/Lab thinking propose that the house and business owners are just going to forget these kinds of losses?
That they’ll somehow get used to stinking air, foul fogs and speeding log trucks ruining their lives, their health and the future of their families in the region?
Do they believe that the voters will just forgive governments for failing to protect them?
Or do they all believe, as Ivan Dean famously said when told of the potential losses in property value ‘That’s life!’
