Here we go again. A serial offender already facing animal cruelty charges has been able to allegedly continue mistreating animals under his control.
Let’s see whether any charges eventuate or result in conviction this time around. Fonterra was certainly quick to respond but why do major companies not monitor conditions more closely, so as to prevent animal suffering proceeding so far.
Can any farm animal be considered safe in Tasmania – and how can consumers of animal products be confident of the safety of their food supply and the ethics of its production? No chance, given the appalling record of animal welfare regulation and monitoring in this state.
Another blow to the clean green mirage, which is rapidly vanishing on the horizon.
