MANAGED investment schemes in agriculture will soon come under the spotlight of a Senate inquiry. Liberal Senator Bill Heffernan said he would broaden the Senate inquiry into food production, which he chairs, to look specifically at MIS. “I want the inquiry to look at the impact of MIS on investors, food producers and the taxpayer,” he told The Weekly Times. “There are serious allegations to be examined, including the lack of full and frank disclosure of information to investors.” The move follows the financial collapse of prominent MIS company Timbercorp and farmer concerns about the distorting impact of MIS.
