RALLY and action in support of Upper Florentine forests and for the right to peaceful protest. 22 March 2009 11 am – 2 pm. Franklin Square then on to the Hobart police headquarters.
Almost 1000 people attended the Jan 18th and 31st Upper Florentine Community Walk-ins – Eleven people have been threatened with charges.
Tell Bartlett and Forestry Tas:
We will not be silenced!
You are invited to take part in a rally and action in solidarity with the forests and those people who have been made scapegoats by the police.
Meet at Franklin Square 11am, and we will then walk to police headquarters where those who wish to can step forward and publicly announce: ‘I was there too!.’
We can then all return to Franklin Square for a picnic lunch together where you can hear updates of the goings on in the forests and within the campaigns.
Instead of listening to the people’s call for the protection of old growth forests, the Tasmanian government, through Tasmania police, have targeted 11 people who were present at this event and threatened them with charges of trespass and inciting people to trespass. This action can only be regarded as an attempt to intimidate those who would stand up for our forests. This is the latest in a series of attempts by Gunns, Forestry Tas and their government supporters to silence dissenting voices through abuse of the legal system.
Thanks for all your ongoing support!
