ON Thursday night 26th March there will be a public meeting and forum on Pesticide use in Tasmania. As you can see from the photos attached to this statement there are serious problems with the way pesticides are being used in Tasmania.

Every year very large areas of our state, mostly where plantations are being grown are aerially sprayed with broad spectrum insecticides.

Mostly synthetic pyrethroids. The problem with this approach is that the chemicals don’t just target the supposed pest ( in this case the Tasmanian eucalyptus beetle) they kill all insects, bees and any aquatic life they come in contact with.

Our state is in danger of being turned into an ecological desert, it has been suggested that plantations are havens for biodiversity. How can this be when all the insects both good and bad are wiped out every year.

Not to mention the illnesses we humans suffer.

Side effects from poisoning with synthetic pyrethroids include, headaches, nausea, vomiting, lack of concentration, vision problems and extreme tiredness.

Of course our government would tell us that we have a dose of the flu, but in this state the flu comes via aerial sprays.

Make an effort to come to the Tailrace Centre in Riverside to find out more and show that you actually want a Clean Green State.
