IF the DIER is listening to It’s Victorian Road Safety counterparts It will already know the remarkable results of their findings when T junctions are replaced by roundabouts. You don’t need to be a boffin to understand that a forcast casualty of at least one per year at the South Dilston T junction will place a staggering burden on the public purse for the life of this new road.
Its, puzzling why any government minister would hesitate to avoid the ignominy of opening a brand new bypass complete with at least one resident black spot.
Transport and shipping groups realise that they are not immune from highway closures when crashers happen ….. too late then to call for a safer solution. DIER has demonstrated it’s confidence in the validity of it’s design by suggesting “experimental” warning lights to alert highway motorists that commuter traffic is trying to enter. How reassuring !
The RACT organisation has added it’s condemnation to that of council in supporting the 2000 residents efforts to achieve a safer alternative in keeping with current mainland practice. I encourage Mr Sturges to consult with our Federal member whom I understand is willing to assist. She is aware of the alarm bells and well positioned to help the state government avoid a catastrophic school bus tragedy.
