Never has the development of a long term platform for sustainable development been more important in Tasmania. If elected to the seat of Windermere, I would immediately move in the Upper House for a select committee to establish a “Sustainable Industry Council” in Tasmania. The term “sustainable development” means many things to many people, and has numerous definitions. It has become the buzzword of politicians, businesses and environment groups all around the world. As quoted by W.M Adams “it has come to carry on its deceptively simple back a vast range of hopes and ideals, from near revolutionary environmentalism to the blandest hint of green in corporate capitalism…the term sustainable development now implies a win-win solution (across environment, society and economy), perfect for the decade of the televised sound bite and the spin doctor”.
