The future of Australian Paper’s two Tasmanian paper making plants is under a cloud. Australian Paper is selling major assets around Australia, but not its Tasmanian plants at Burnie and Wesley Vale which employ about 500 workers. Instead, the operation of the Tasmanian mills is under review. In a statement to the Australian Securities Exchange Australian Paper’s parent company, PaperlinX, has said the review will look at retaining the mills, partial closure, closure or sale.
