I would like to applaud the writer of this piece. I can’t say that I understood some previous missives fully, but this one is a very sincere and moving reflection – both on the personal and the political. I have read and heard some very unpleasant things about this ex-Minister. I am not sure that Tassie is unique in this, but there is a tendency out there for some very small-minded and base attitudes that often follow the ‘fall’ of a public figure. As to the specifics of payouts, people should check their own super conditions, but most would have clauses for early pay-outs in the case of severely disabling illness precluding continuance in a position. Politicians do have generous super conditions in general, as the pay is fairly miserable relative to scale of management and responsibility, particularly for Ministers (unless you are an MLA, which is really a ‘ticket to ride’, but don’t get me started on that again).
