A fine read that. Pity it will be lost on brainless news editors the world over. Newspapers are certainly dying a slow, painful and unnecessary death. The more intensely they have followed the course of marketing gurus, the less newspapers they sell. When you begin to try and divine the reasons why ‘most’ people buy newspapers and narrowing the base to those ‘majority’ purchasers you begin to alienate people who don’t buy them for those ‘core’ reasons. Newspapers should be eclectic, but most of all reliable and interesting.
Look at the South American newspapers for hope. A worthwhile read on the matter is Mort Rosenblum’s ‘Who Stole The News?’
