The Federal Government will give its final verdict on Gunns’s proposed northern Tasmanian pulp mill early next week. Environment Minister Peter Garrett’s assessment of the mill will be completed by Monday. Mr Garrett needs to approve 16 environmental modules for the mill to proceed. He has already granted one previous extension and has ruled out giving another. Mr Garrett had only approved four of 16 modules six weeks ago, but has just returned from leave and will work through the weekend. Read more here
