David Chadwick
My simple contribution to the current forest debate is a question and my question is directed to Bob Brown and his Federal Green colleagues , Nick McKim and the Tasmanian Greens, Vica Bayley and the Wilderness Society, Ulla Majewski and the Huon Valley Environment Centre and to all those other Green groups and their supporters be they in the Florentine valley or on the Streets of London.
My question is:
How much of Tasmania’s forests do u believe should be added to the existing areas of forests that have already been protected and preserved?
Surely this is not an unreasonable question ?
That the question remains unanswered is a mystery to me; I can not believe that the environmental movement do not have an answer to the question surely they must know? Do the groups realize that until this questions is answered and answered honestly the debate about the forests and forest protection is meaningless and can not progress further than the next tree due to be felled. Or do they want to prolong Tasmania’s forest agony by fighting from tree to tree, from coup to coup, year in and year out.
Is the answer 1% more, 33% more, 72.6% more or 100% more? If the later that would at least be honest it may or may not be achievable but the answer would allow for honest debate all I seek to establish is a base line from which we can begin the debate.
Please, once and for all will you tell the Tasmanian people what you want so we can begin the debate and aim at making Tasmania a better place for everyone of us.
Until this simple question is answered how can we bring an end to Tasmania’s Gorilla Forest Wars.
Regards,
David Chadwick
