The Tasmanian Greens today congratulated the Flinders Island Tourism Association following last night’s launch of a stunning new tourism-focussed website designed to boost tourist visitation to Flinders Island.
Greens Member for Bass, Kim Booth MP, who was a guest speaker at the launch, said that the new website is a comprehensive showcase of everything that Flinders Island has to offer to the outside world, and stands as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the Flinders Island Tourism Association.
Mr Booth also said that this year’s drought and the Bartlett Labor Government’s recent failure to promptly address ongoing stock transportation problems have badly affected the Island’s traditional agricultural industry, so the new website gives a very timely boost to the local tourism sector.
“The Flinders Island Tourism Association deserve recognition and congratulation for the enormous amount of work and effort that has gone towards their fantastic new website,” said Mr Booth.
“Flinders Island’s historical reliance on agriculture has recently been threatened by drought and by the Bartlett Government’s failure to provide a reliable stock transportation service to and from the island, a failure that is estimated to have cost the Flinders Island community $1.5 million, so this new tourism website is incredibly timely for the Island’s economy and for the local community.”
“While it is heartening to hear that the Bartlett Government will now commission a review into the current Flinders Island shipping service contract, I do wonder why they voted down my Parliamentary motion for such an inquiry in October this year, just eight weeks ago,” said Mr Booth.
