It is a breathtaking view and one I have never seen until now. It is only 500m from the car park to this geological wonder. Disturbingly and ironically it is only 50 metres from the car park to Tasmania’s retarded legacy and current fatally flawed paradigm that is clear fell forestry. Yes that’s true! The bonus is the walk to the clear fell is practically level, whereas the walk to Leven Canyon is uphill all the way! What are they thinking???
Leven in 60 seconds……A day in the north west of Tasmania
275 METRES ABOVE the floor of Leven Canyon I stand at the lookout watching a white Goshawk rising and manoeuvring to eye level while a relatively small amount of water coursing the Leven River makes its way to the coast.
It is a breathtaking view and one I have never seen until now.

Clear fell is also in the vista from the lookout and plantations cover the country side of the otherwise picturesque North West.
The perhaps aptly named “Gunns Plains” has plantations almost down to the entrance of the magnificent “Gunns Caves”.
How long will it be before these “supersuckers” stop the flow of water that keeps these caves alive?
Great to be back in Launceston where we only have the tiny problem of one of the world’s biggest pulp mills threatening our lives and the asthma enhancing smoke from napalm burns to contest.
A new slogan perhaps……..
Forestry in Tasmania; the only thing sustainable is our detrimental effect on your lives.
